365 Reasons I Married My Husband (Reasons 240-246)

The reason I married my husband is…

240. …he doesn’t allow daddy issues to hinder his manhood. Like many children, my husband did not grow up with a father in the home. I personally believe that this experience has helped shape him into a man with wonderful qualities. Sometimes you have to turn a negative into a positive and that’s exactly what he has done.  My husband often talks about the kind of parent he wants to be and the kind of men he hopes to raise (providing that we have sons). What I see in him is a man who wants to pour into his future children everything that he didn’t get from his own father. I see a man who wants the responsibility of raising spiritual, responsible, respectable and productive children. I see a man who is not angry or bitter towards his own father for his choices. I see a man who never makes excuses, who takes responsibility and who makes every attempt to right his wrongs. I see a man who despite a lack of physical fatherly parenting makes a daily decision to be the type of man that would make his Heavenly Father say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” I am blessed to call him my husband.

241. …he likes to spoon. My husband is an incredibly affectionate person. Since his primary love language is physical touch and well…mine is NOT, it’s taken a lot of getting used to. I never want to make him feel unloved or undesired so even when I’d rather revert back into my only child-like syndrome ways and sit quietly in a room alone, I give my hubby the affection he needs. Actually, he’s helped me to see that I like spooning and cuddling almost as much as he does. What I love most is that he has a “need” to be close to me. Certainly does a girl’s self esteem pretty good. ;)

242. …he takes pride in his appearance. My husband has a philosophy: In order to keep marriage spicy each party should do their best to make/keep themselves attractive to their spouse, but mostly for their own confidence and self esteem. My husband gets weekly haircuts, keeps his fingernails and toenails manicured. He never lets his beard get scruffy. He regularly works out and tries to consume healthy meals. He wears clothing that fit him well and overall always looks handsome to me and he’s one of the most confident persons I know.

243. …he hates weave and make up. You know, I don’t mind weave, but I do mind a bad weave or a silky ponytail and roots of a totally different texture, oh and lace fronts. Come on ladies, you know what I’m talking about.  Part of what my husband finds attractive aside from my glowing personality :) is my natural look. I wear my own (real) hair and I hardly ever wear makeup. I love that my husband prefers the “natural” me…I do too.

244. …he writes things down. Now this one characteristic alone makes me feel like my husband is a blessing from heaven. Ladies, ever ask your husband to do a series of tasks or pick up a series of things from the grocery store and he either forgets half of them or half of the stuff you asked for at the store? Even if my husband is going to Subway for me he writes down everything I want on my sandwich and comes back with exactly what I’ve asked for. He’s always been really good about making lists and following through with each task. One other thing he does is courtesy call me to verify that he’s selecting the correct grocery item (i.e. whole grain or 9 grain, with wings or without :) ). I appreciate him so much for this! I feel so much like he’s tapping into my primary love language, acts of service, when he’s thoughtful in this manner.

245. …he’s honest to a fault. If there is a question to which you want a truthful answer and you ask my husband, I beg you, please be ready because he’s not going to hold anything back. Now, while his intention is not to hurt anyone’s feelings he is going to be honest with you. This is something I very much respect about his character. I experienced his blatant honesty just a couple of weeks ago. I have had these shoes that my husband hates and apparently has hated them for a long time (they are some Ugg knockoffs) unbeknownst to me. I made the mistake of asking him what he thought of my outfit for that day and when I tell you he went in on those boots, he went in! I could tell he and these boots had had some pent up agitation for some time. It was so funny the way hubby started out by saying, “I’m not trying to be funny but…” He spent about 5 minutes telling me how horrible these boots were and then offered to buy me some new ones. I just sat looking at him the whole time he was talking like, wow, I never knew he hated these boots with such passion. Anyway, I’m glad he could be honest with me (my feelings were in now way hurt by his words) and I got some new boots out of the deal. ;)

246. …he keeps me from becoming a hoarder. My husband constantly purges his things. I don’t know why, but you can usually find him throwing something in the garbage (or better yet making a charity pile). You’ll usually find me asking him why he’s getting rid of those pants or those shoes. His other philosophy is, if I haven’t used it in more than 6 months it needs to go. I, on the other hand hardly ever throw out anything and continuously bring home papers and random other stuff that ends up sitting around the house. Hubby helps me to evaluate needs versus wants and encourages me to help others by donating to charity.

Such a wonderful post! I really like your point on your husband's behavior and the reasons for that. I think it is really amazing that he has grown up without a father and that has inspired him to be the best father.

It is a huge list, I am trying myself to compile an equally longer list about my husband Carlos but I can't go that far, I am on reason 213 at the moment, I cross my fingers that I will make it to 365 by the end of the year. All the best.

  14. Stephanie says:

Its good for you…You really deserve it…You can also have the words engraved on a plaque. Another creative option is to have the words typed or hand-written onto a piece of decorative paper, roll it up and place it in a decorative bottle for display purposes.

The situation is especially difficult if she has proven to be spiteful of you and your marriage, or if she doesn't want to accept that the romantic relationship between herself and your husband has ended.
