Wee Words Wednesday: Ankle Bracelet

I was looking for a pair of earrings last month when I ran across a piece of jewelery that brought back some memories. It is a simple 14K gold ankle bracelet. When I was 16 years old I was really into ankle bracelets. My then boyfriend, now husband, used to tease me because I wore those cheap ones from Claire’s and other kiddie jewelry stores like Icing. I mean come on, I was 16. That same year I received a letter from my beau via US Postal Mail. It wasn’t like any other letter that he had ever written me because this one was slightly puffy. Upon opening the letter, I found a balled up piece of toilet paper inside. I opened the toilet paper ball and found what would be my first piece of real jewelry given to me by a boy…a gold ankle bracelet. I knew at the time that my beau had a job and was saving for college, but I had no idea that he would spend some of his money to buy me this gift. I have kept it for all of these years and in honor of my hubby’s thoughtfulness, I”m going to wear it all day today. I love you Babe!

Precious. It's amazing how important the "first" of anything is. You hope that your "first" leaves special memories. I didn't experience my "first jewelry" piece until I was 30, and it was well worth the wait. 16 or 30 yrs old it still feels the same and I hope to have that same level of jubilation at 70 when I think about my "first" Thanks for the wee words.
